THE BEGINNINGS:
I became interested in magic at around age 20. My parents had a New Year's Eve party
at their house in Houston during the early '70's. For my friends and I to be allowed
to stay I was required to present a game or a trick to the rest of the guests. This
was the theme of the party and everybody had to do something. My father directed me
to the spare bedroom where there was a magic kit he had purchased. I thumbed through
the book titled "101 Magic Tricks". The "Cut and Restored Rope"
caught my attention since I knew we had rope and a pair of scissors. I practised a
few time and was convinced everyone would figure it out immediately, but, I didn't care.
This was just my passport to staying at the party. I made my presentation to
the group and was personally amazed that they were so amazed by the trick. I did the
trick for my friends at a club that I frequented. The owner of the club enjoyed it
and asked if I would like to do a show for the club. Being young and ambitious, I
said, "Sure". The next Friday after work I went into downtown Houston, to
"Archie's Fun Shop" and bought a bag full of magic tricks. From there I
drove straight to the club, huddled in the DJ booth, I began learning each of the tricks
for my performance that night. Bad as I am sure I was, they enjoyed it. So, I
repeated the process week after week for a while. As I became more accomplished, and
more interested in the trade, I began building my own tricks, some of which were totally
original. As I ventured into marketing my original magic, I joined the local chapter
of the Society of American Magicians and began attenting Magician Conventions around the
country. In the early '80's I put together a retail store called, "Just for
Laughs" which sold magic, novelty items, gag gifts and rented costumes. During
the construction of the store a fellow magician, Ace Star (Earl Starry) introduced
himself. We became fast friends. He inspired me with his close-up magic.
Ace was also a very popular street magician at festivals all over the country.
Through the magic conventions, being in the magic apparatus retail business, and
constantly building or buying new effects for my shows, I had an opportunity to acquire a
large collection of tricks, books and memorabilia.

NOW . . .
After my divorce in 1996, I packed all of my magic apparatus. When I made my
decision in 1997 to move to Horseshoe Bay, I gave away a number of my larger, stage
illusions and stage props. There not being any suitable venues for magic in the
Horseshoe Bay area, and my lack of ambition to travel in order to perform, my collection
has remained in storage until now. I have decided to part with the vast majority of
my collection, retaining only those favorite things that have special sentimental value.
The rest is more valuable to the world in the hands of magicians who will
perpetuate the intent of these magic items, which is to entertain and share the mystique
of the illusions they create with others.
